Friends of Emergent in San Antonio:
With learning tracks #2 and #3 wrapped up finally (last year we went through spiritual formation and missional
ecclesiology tracks of discussion), and back from our self-imposed Advent break, we're taking a look at the sustainability of the cohort gatherings, the frequency and topics of our conversations, and the general interest level from you, the cohort.
In 2005 we found it was reasonable to meet twice monthly, on alternating Saturdays, usually at Viva Books who had generously offered us meeting space, other times at coffee houses or restauants. We're pretty sure this frequency is not sustainable for 2006, but we're looking for cues. Your feedback would be most appreciated.
It seems there's twofold purpose to having a cohort.
First, it provides community, dialog, belonging and resources for those entering into the emerging church discussion, for those in the liminal spaces between modern and postmodern life etc. Second, it provides a grassroots forum for ideas to filter up to the national/international emerging church discussions.
We feel led to continue the cohort, if for no other reason than to be a conversation partner with those who have begun a deconstruction process and find themselves decentered and in need of community. I'm rambling, but maybe when you stumble across this blog post, you can send some encouragement along, and indicate with what frequency you'd like to meet, and whether you're interested in helping lead, facilitate, organize or communicate.
Props to Casey for his ongoing administration and leadership. And his putting up with me.

Hey guys. The is Ryan. I met you at Starbuck's last month with my wife. Sorry we haven't been able to make it to the past cohort meetings. We really wanted to, but stuff kept holding us up. Please continue to keep us updated on fufure meetings. We look forward to seeing you guys again, talking about higher things, and just hanging out. Thank you to Casey for the email updates. You are the man! Paul, I check your blog frequently. You've got some great stuff on there, and I'm loving Post-Rapture Radio. Hope to see you guys soon.

Thanks, Ryan! You're encouraging! We hope to see the two of you soon, but no worries :)
All: Case and I were talking last night, and this
might sound doable: how about we meet once monthly and see how that fares, moving to once quarterly if the former doesn't generate much interest.
