soupablog reader and graphic designer ted "i really need to blog" yun and his wife heather came over for dinner tonight with their kewel baby boy Theo. I mentioned Ted in my first Values Set blog. We grilled really good* ribeyes, (and hot dogs for the kids), had some yellow tail cabernet, talked about school memories, and really had fun watching my eight-year-old son do card tricks for us, one of which was taught to him by my recent summer intern danny. i learned that ted and i both had a thing for star wars figures as kids.
what was really great about tonight was that somehow i was really relaxed. normally when friends come over, I'm uptight the whole time they're over, stressing about appearances, being a good host, etc., etc. But tonight i actually just enjoyed myself and my guests. maybe i'm mellowing.
i spent some time this afternoon reading my copy of Appetite by Nigel Slater. I really love his writing style. It exudes a confidence that is not selfish, but rather shared in such a way that builds confidence in others. 'specially training-wheel cooks like myself. today was a good culinary day.
*marinade thick ribeyes in soy sauce in the fridge for 2 hours prior to grilling. that's it.
