Blend is a coffee house in the venerable Wong's Grocery building on South Flores. This is a turn-of-the-last-century building with lots of stories to tell. A while back I blogged about a photoshoot I did at Wong's... um ... [here.]
A co-worker (Kathy, who also does worship set up at the AHUMC Taizé service) asked me several times to accompany her to Blend, so this morning, we both took a field trip of sorts. I knew there was a church community that met there, and so i asked the barista if she knew about the church. She smiled and said she was the pastor there.
So that's how I met Amanda Lopez, today, the Developer/Creative Worship Team Leader of PMVerb, "the fusion of creativity and spirituality in a loungey setting" ... Turns out Blend is their church community's outreach to the community -- their employees are volunteers from the congregation, comprised it seems of a diverse, southtown sort of vibey, artsy, crowd. I also met Rick Lopez, a fellow art director (he works at Bromley), and Creative/Visual Director for PMVerb; while I was talking with them, it came back to me that Jeremy Everett had been there before, and they confirmed they thought they knew him. Their church meets:
7:30pm Wednesdays
1502 S. Flores
Wongs Grocery Company
Two of my good friends go there! It's a small world.
