more paul from the road:
Jolie Willis gave me a book when we were in austin the other day: Post-Rapture Radio : Lost Writings from the Failed Revolution at the End of the Last Century by Russell Rathbun. I hadn't realized until after i had said thank-you that this was a book from which i had once read a chapter-long excerpt (Jesus in a suitcase) and had wanted to read. i can't remember what i told jolie; i'm usually so awkward about receiving (gifts, compliments, advice, praise, anything) that i fumble my words. But it's about receiving and giving: This book has been read and handed along by a few people who have written their names on the flysheet; i'm now going to pass it along to someone who will hopefully pass it along to someone who will hopefully...
anyway, i started the book last night before going to sleep, and i ended up finishing it a little while ago. time to passalong. it would be a fun read for anyone who has either been a pastor in an evangelical church and has left or been fired, or for someone who knows someone who fits this bill. for this is the very thing the book swirls around.
after the Cottrells found out i was in mcKinney (with an "i") and reminded me (thanks to the blog) that they live 45 minutes away or so (and they happen to be coming to mcKinney tomorrow), we have arranged to get together and meet them for breakfast in the morning at La Madeleine. so that should be good. i'll try and snap some photos.
i ate well today. turkey, potatoes, green beans, gravy, rolls, and some really good 1991 don melchor cabernet sauvignon - ambivalent about my privilege once again. i hope you were warm and safe and loved this thanksgiving. i'll blog soon about worship preparations for Trinity House; it's been fun and meaningful putting together our first advent service with cliff. i'm rambling.
soon: i will write a book review for Body Prayer and see if Viva will run it.
So glad you enjoyed it. I've been holding onto it, not sure who would enjoy such a read. Whose nightstand will it land on now?

i have no idea who gets it next, but i think i'll give amy the first shot before i pass it along.
[reader, if you want to be next, comment below, especially if postage is not involved]
