my country of origin has no national epic.
what mythology do we bring to the table?
this weekend i read J.R.R. Tolkien's posthumously published "The Children of Húrin" — (son.editor Christopher Tolkien must be getting up in years himself) I had long ago read the version in the Silmarillion and the Narn i Chîn Húrin in the book Unfinished Tales. The whole endeavor makes me wonder - have any of you explored the Kalevala, the national epic of Finland (Tolkien was inspired by the lyrical poem when he wrote much of what was to become the Silmarillion)? after reading the "Húrin" book, I went back and re-read Tuor's approach to Gondolin found in Unfinished Tales this afternoon.
