Once upon a time, Emergent Village carried the MP3 of Walter Brueggemann's near-famous 19 Theses. Their link went dead when the new website went live; tonight I'm bringin' 'em back for you, the Soupablog reader, along with Paul Fromont and Alan Jamieson's transcription.
My friend Troy Bronsink moderates the session, and it's also interesting to hear them dialog during the nearly 40 minutes of Q&A which follow.
I tried to keep the files intact, but edited out a few long audio gaps.
First off, he likes poetry, so he can stay. Anyone who wants us to speak to the congregations in the way of the poet is floating on the same waters with me.
Second, he is a giant, in more ways than one. I rewrote the script for myself without the help of this fine manuscript, but how I wish I had read/heard this before. The Q&A is good. Urging those who follow Christ to think for themselves with the help of a good exegetist, to look for the meaning rather than count the rhymes and meter of what the Bible says is right dead on. That whole last bit about never teaching kids anything they will have to unlearn later is also right dead on.

Thanks, CH! Here's one of Brueggemann's poems I like:

Thanks for posting that. I heard it a while back but I needed to hear it again.

Thanks for doing this. I think you gave me a copy of these some time ago. I'm glad to read them again.
