God can be poetic at just the right time so that the result seems to spite man(un)kind. Like evolving orchids that "seem to thrive on post-industrial landscapes" such as abandoned coal mine tailings.

Nature is just bad-ass. Seriously. I know the plants look all serene and everything, but they are warriors, and they use every kind of warfare. The weeds are commandos, holding the wounded ground until the serious plants can take root. And these orchids are explorers, conquering new territories and planting flags of the original empire. Go away for long enough and the plants can and will destroy everything we've made.
