Thankfully someone's finally done it ... Tony Jones took the last year or so and gathered and codified many of the stories, theologies and artifacts from the first decade of the emerging church conversation. The New Christians: Dispatches from the Emergent Frontier (2008, Jossey-Bass) offers hope-filled, engaging views (at times wonderfully granular, other times, appropriately birds-eye) of many of the facets of the imperfect gem that is emergent. Part history scrapbook, part emergent church travelogue, part theological and epistemic treatment, this primer may well become the de-facto "on-ramp text" for the next decade.
Just dropped by to say hi. Maple Sugaring is in full production. We have made over 600 gallons of maple syrup, thus far, from approximately 24,000 gallons of maple sap (Two-thirds of which was gathered by hand with buckets, the rest comes from a new vacuum line system). Lambing season is over with 12 new lambs in the flock. The greenhouse is getting crowded. The snow and ice are trying to melt (a balmy 50 degrees today). Two calves were born yesterday and seem to be doing well. The chickens are laying more eggs with the increase in temperature. The sun is shining, most of the time. Cross-Country skiing opportunities are getting fewer as snowfall levels decrease and mud begins to dominate the terrain. Chickadees are Chickadeedeedeeing. Insects are making cameos. We saw a few white tail deer, a porcupine and a weasel still white with it's winter coat. We also smelled the unforgettable perfume of a family of skunks. Spring is near and we are ready to receive her. Peace be with you, my friend.
