7:12am amy's in chicago which means i had to wake myself up if i was going to get jordan to tyler's house by 7:50 (our dear friends tyler and maggie do not round time up to the nearest fifteen-minute increment as do many of us; it's curious to me that they're just as likely to say "drop the kids off at 7:50" or "i'll be by to drop off Price at 4:37").
7:59am dropped off jordan ran back home since he forgot his windbreaker, and drove it back to tyler's house. jordan left with the boy scouts to work on a sailing merit badge out on canyon late, and i took the girls to shipley's for doughnuts, and i got a coffee.
8:15am came back to the house and the girls grabbed a bedspread and pillows and set them out in the front yard. beautiful weather. i tried on my new hats courtesy of makeesha fisher's handiwork. they fit. not a small feat for a huge noggin. puttered around the house. straightened up a bit. got fidgety. recorded a movie with the girls which i posted online below.
10:30am we decided to go down to brackenridge park and ride the miniature train. i had taken the kids a few years back, but don't think emma had experienced it yet.
11:00am we got off at the japanese tea gardens stop and toured the gardens. it's classified as a thin place* for me, and infused with memories of my childhood. we snapped a bunch of iphone pictures before hopping back on the train.
12:45pm after a hamburger and fries we settled back at home; abigail read for homework and i edited down some of the day's photos. the other two settled into bed with books and fell asleep. a little later i did the same (i am enjoying benjamin franklin's autobiography on the iphone for free using bartleby.com)
2:00pm somewhere in there i fell asleep
3:40pm that was a good little nap. i woke up and finished sorting the photos into a little gallery and grabbed a copy of beyond foundationalism for tim to borrow for a paper he's working on.
4:44pm emma is really missing amy. we just called her on the phone, but emma cried through the whole call. (sorry, amy)
5:ish pm the kids and i are driving to seguin tonight to be a part of the netzer co-op shindig, assuming jordan gets back from his boy scout outing soon enough.
* In the Celtic tradition Thin Places are places where the spiritual and the natural world intersect. Thin Spaces are the moments when we experience a deep sense of God’s presence in our everyday world. (ht)
Hey, Sunken Gardens is open again!?? Huzzah! I didn't realize they'd actually been making progress behind those unsightly fences that had been up for far too long. Now I want to plan a trip!
